Nobody ever dies in the city of perfection.

Every year, on June 27th, in a small village in New England, inhabited by no more than 300 people, a lottery is held in which a family is chosen as part of a ritual to ensure a good harvest.

A music teacher realizes that she's won the lottery, but then promptly loses the ticket out the window. The short film then follows her exploits to recover the ticket as it is grabbed by a pigeon, blown down the street and into the subway.

Returning to his small hometown of Icara, Maine, a man discovers its horrible secret -- a bizarre, clandestine ritual that led to his mother's early death and his father's insanity.

Based on an excerpt from Dawson's autobiographical book 'It Gets Worse.' The story follows Teresa, Dawson's mother, as she prays and plans for a winning lottery ticket that will change her family's life forever.
